Pirates Day Adventure on ‘Black Magic’
All aboard Black Magic! On this replica of the 16th century square-rigged galleon pirate ship, kids can experience what it would be like to be a real Pirate of the Caribbean: from dressing up as a pirate and firing the black powder cannons to swinging from the yardarms and walking the plank, there’s no better activity for the seafaring swashbucklers in your family.
The Black Magic crew are on hand to entertain and offer fun facts along the way. Stops include the Diamond Botanical Gardens, Saint Lucia’s iconic drive-in volcano at Sulphur Springs and break for swimming.
Cost: $102 USD for adults and $45 for children
Pigeon Island Treasure Hunt
Spend a day at Pigeon Island, one of Saint Lucia’s most famous national landmarks, and embark on an exhilarating treasure hunt. To kick off this adventure, you’ll be greeted by a lively resident pirate who is alleged to have been abandoned back in the days of Jame De Bois, the infamous pirate captain.
This truly memorable activity takes your crew for a tour around the whole island, and you could even win prizes, including a return trip to Saint Lucia for two (or cash equivalent). The day ends with a well-deserved swim on the beach where refreshments are available.
Cost: $30 for adults and children
Visit Blackbeard at Black Bay in Vieux Fort
In the second half of the 18th century, Vieux Fort was the center of Saint Lucia’s sugar industry. Legend has it that the infamous pirate Blackbeard used to store his treasure in a hidden cove in a place called Black Bay. If you love wildlife and are looking for a family-friendly day trip, this excursion takes your group about a mile off Vieux Fort’s coast to two turtle-shaped islands called the Maria Islands. These are protected nature reserves serving as refuge for two perilously endangered reptiles: the Zandoli Te, a colourful ground lizard with a brilliant blue tail, and the harmless Kouwes snake, the rarest snake in the world. The islands are also nesting grounds for leatherback turtles and numerous species of sea birds.
‘Captain Birdseye’ view Aerial Tram Adventure
The Rainforest Aerial Tram tour transports guests up and away from the heat and bustle of the lowlands to an ecological park located in the heights of Saint Lucia’s forest. Sixteen open-air gondolas glide silently through the rainforest, offering guests an enchanting view of nature in all its glory – towering Gommiers, Chatanniers, and the remarkable phenomenon of the Strangler Ficus, and of course the playful hummingbirds and cananaquits.
Cost: $75 for adults and $64 for children
All excursions can be booked through Cap Maison’s concierge.
